Peak 7766 Tahoe Viewpoint

Photo Album

Hike on a wintry Spring day to the Peak 7766 viewpoint spur trail from the Tahoe Rim Trail at the California Hwy 267 trailhead near Brockway Summit. I had intended to go snowshoeing near Mt. Rose, but the tantalizing patch of blue sky visible from Reno turned into fog with a cold brisk wind at the Mt. Rose highway summit–so I drove on to the TRT. This would be a good place to take visitors for a short hike with a Lake Tahoe view.

Cinder Cone – TRT from Tahoe City

Photo Album

This hike follows the Tahoe Rim Trail from Tahoe City toward Watson Lake, stopping at the “Cinder Cone”, which overlooks Lake Tahoe and the Truckee River Canyon. The TRT route has change since this hike was described by Mike White in “Reno – Tahoe Afoot & Afield” (2006). The trail to the Cinder Cone overlook is now 4.8 miles instead of 3.75 miles and it doesn’t go very near peak 7572. There are better views of Lake Tahoe along the way though.

Page Meadow, Tahoe Rim Trail, Section 8 South

Photo Album

Page Meadow is known for its splendid displays of wildflowers and is popular for its easy access from Lake Tahoe. Hiked this section of the Tahoe Rim Trail with M. and G. We completed the part of section 8 from Tahoe City, trailhead near where the Truckee River leaves Lake Tahoe, to Ward Creek. The return was via a shorter route, also through some nice meadows. There are a number of alternative trails in this area.
