Squaw Valley Peak

Squaw Valley Peak

A great mountain bike ride with Joe and Michael, loop around Squaw Valley Peak via McReynolds Valley and Siegfried Canyon, in area 10 miles north of Beckwourth, CA. This ride features interesting terrain, forests, meadows, and lava flows, a climb up a dirt/rock road in Siegfried Canyon, and a glorious descent on the paved road back to Squaw Valley.

Peavine on Fire

Verdi Fire 8/12/2006

A brush fire on Peavine Peak started on Friday 8/11/2006 in Verdi and burned 10 square miles of open land. This panorama (click on the photo to enlarge) was taken on the morning of 8/12/2006 from I-80 west of Reno, as Michael and I were escaping to the mountains. The fire was mostly contained by Sunday.

Tahoe Rim Trail 06 Aug 2006 11:36 pm

Tahoe Rim Trail, Tahoe Meadows to Brockway Summit

Section 2 of the Tahoe Rim Trail, Mt. Rose Summit Trailhead to Brockway Summit Trailhead, with Michael and Ben, 19.7 miles. One-way hike with car shuttle from Mt. Rose Summit Trailhead to Brockway Summit Trailhead. The car shuttle is 15.3 miles. This section of the TRT largely follows ridgelines between Relay Peak and Martis Peak, with great views of Tahoe and the backcountry of the Mt. Rose Wilderness Area. The trail is well marked, except for an ambiguous sign at (39.29006,120.02702)–at this point follow the main dirt road past two turnoffs (not one) for 1/2 mile (not 1/4 mile) to where the single-track TRT resumes. Two sections down, six to go!
