Babbit Peak and Jones Valley

For Nevada Day weekend, Michael and I and Spaz the dog went on a hiking and car camp trip to the Jones Valley and Babbitt Peak area of the Tahoe National Forest, just west of Reno. The lookout station (above) was closed for the season. A chilly night in Jones Valley. Here are a few photos from the trip.

Pacific Crest Trail, Barker Pass to Alpine Meadows (CA Section K3)

A nice, long dayhike with Michael, Joe, and S.M. on the Pacific Crest Trail from Barker Pass to Alpine Meadows, on the west side of Lake Tahoe in the Granite Chief Wilderness Area. The descent into Alpine Meadows Ski Area is via the Five Lakes Trail. We did a shuttle, leaving a car at the Five Lakes Trailhead and driving to Barker Pass via the Blackwood Canyon Rd.

Round Top

Another georgeous dayhike, this time to Winnemucca Lake, Round Top Lake, and Round Top, from the Woods Lake Trailhead near Carson Pass on CA Hwy 88. There’s new snow at high elevations since last week, but we made it to the top of Round Top, ~10370 ft.

Round Top is on the Tahoe OGUL peak list.
